La Mesa
Police chased a suspected auto thief for almost an hour Wednesday afternoon on freeway and roads crisscrossing San Diego and La Mesa before apprehending him after he bolted from his car and was chased several blocks to an apartment complex in La Mesa.
Peter Mosher, 25, was arrested on suspicion of receiving stolen property, reckless driving, evading arrest and hit-and-run driving, said Sgt. Fred England of the San Diego Police Department.
According to police, Mosher was pursued because he was suspected of driving a stolen car, but police later discovered the car belonged to him. England said he did not know how many officers were involved in the chase, which began about 2 p.m. and covered parts of Insterstates 8, 5 and 805, as well as California 163 and 94.
The hit-run accident involved a La Mesa police car, but there were no injuries.
