Applause for Cancellation
The Emergency Nurses Assn. of Orange County applauds the cancellation of “Nightingales.” In the face of a nurse shortage, sensationalizing student nurses’ lives was detrimental.
We are concerned over quotations in Diane Haithman’s May 17 article, “Actors Say Pressure Shot Down ‘Nightingales.’ ”
The public response to the show was described as reminiscence of the “McCarthy era,” and special interest groups were accused of “controlling” what goes on the air. We feel it was simply an issue of viewer reaction to a demeaning depiction of a professional group.
We hope that the actors who were upset by the cancellation realize the error of their thinking should they ever be in need of a professional nurse.
