Area Roundup : Kickboxers Fight for Titles on Monday
World champion Don Wilson will face Mike Winkejohn in a 10-round, 180-pound division kickboxing match at 7 p.m. Monday at the Red Lion Hotel in Costa Mesa. A 12-round match between bantamweight champion Lawrence Miera and Kirk Stengle will be featured to decide the junior featherweight champion.
Ray Rodriguez will fight Phillip Medina in a five-round match to decide the World Karate Assn. California light-heavyweight championship. Tom Jones will meet Jim Mitchell in a five-round match for the WKA California super-welterweight championship and Dao Le will face John Rimbert for the WKA super-lightweight championship.
The women’s WKA flyweight championship will be decided in a four-round match between Lisa Smith and Leslie Yeda.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster outlets or at the hotel.
Dino Andino of San Clemente and Jim Hogan of Capistrano Beach will be among the competitors at the fifth stop on the U.S. Pro Tour of Surfing and Bodyboarding, July 12-16 at the San Clemente Pier.
Andino won last year’s surfing event and Hogan finished second the past two years.
Bodyboarders will include Keith Sasaki of San Clemente and defending U.S. champion Mike Stewart of Hawaii.
Each day’s events will start at 7 a.m., with the trials on July 12-14, seeded trials for surfing and bodyboarding on July 15, and all finals on July 16.

A junior pro-am surfing contest will be at the Huntington Beach Pier July 8. Surf and Street Mechanix will donate a portion of the proceeds to a coastal environmental group, the Surfrider Foundation.
Competitors must be 21 or under and the entry fee is $15 for amateurs and $50 for professionals.

The Kahuna San Clemente Offshore classic, featuring Jet Ski competition, will be on the north side of the San Clemente Pier on July 17 and 18.
Jeff Jacobs, current world champion, and David Gordon, a two-time former world champion, will lead the field.
