Owners of the Sacramento Union have signed a letter of intent to sell the newspaper to Sacramento developer Danny Benvenuti and his partner, David Kassis, the newspaper announced. The terms and price of the sale were not disclosed except that the deal includes both the newspaper and its real estate on Sacramento’s Capitol Mall. A spokesman for Pennsylvania publisher Richard Mellon Scaife, who has owned first a 50% interest and then the entire newspaper since 1977, said he expects the the sale to be completed during the final quarter of this year.
