PacBell Supports 35-cent Rate Cut: California’s largest phone company proposed to the Public Utilities Commission that its revenue be trimmed by $135 million--about 35 cents a month for the average residential customer--effective Jan. 1, when a new system of regulating local phone prices takes effect. The PUC staff will submit its recommendation before the PUC decides later this year how deeply to cut. Pacific Bell generated $8.75 billion in revenue last year.
