PREP ROUNDUP : Shoudt Wins Empire League Tennis Title
Jennifer Shoudt of Los Alamitos High School won the Empire League girls’ singles title by defeating teammate Laura Brun, 7-6, 6-4, Thursday at the Old Ranch Tennis Club in Seal Beach.
In the Empire League doubles final, Tracy Botha and Jennifer Dinicola of El Dorado defeated Lynn Vonusa and Alicia Michaels of Katella, 7-6, 6-1.
In Sea View League girls’ tennis:
Corona del Mar 14, Estancia 4--Keri Phebus swept her sets, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead league champion Corona del Mar (10-0 in league) over Estancia (14-6, 7-3).
In South Coast League girls’ tennis:
Capistrano Valley 17, El Toro 1--Page Bartelt swept, 6-1, 6-0, 6-0, to lead league champion Capistrano Valley (17-1, 9-1).
In Empire League girls’ volleyball:
Esperanza 3, Los Alamitos 0--Sharman Grant had nine kills to lead host Esperanza to a 15-3, 15-9, 15-4, victory. Esperanza (13-1, 10-0) now has won 12 consecutive league championships.
In Orange League girls’ volleyball:
Magnolia 3, Anaheim 1--Jill Schneider had 16 kills and five blocks to lead Magnolia to a 15-12, 15-0, 7-15, 15-12 victory.
In Sea View League girls’ volleyball:
Corona del Mar 3, Estancia 0--Marni Jo Price had 10 digs and five aces to lead league champion Corona del Mar (21-1, 10-0) over host Estancia, 15-3, 15-3, 15-7.
In South Coast League girls’ volleyball:
El Toro 3, Capistrano Valley 0--Michelle Mauney had 14 kills to lead El Toro (12-3, 8-2) to a 15-11, 15-3, 15-5 victory over visiting Capistrano Valley (11-4, 9-1).
