Flintridge Prep 23, Faith Baptist 14--The Rebels had lost to Faith Baptist by 17 points in the regular season and trailed, 14-0, late in the first half at Faith Baptist before rallying.
Running back John Garrett’s four-yard run capped an 11-play, 67-yard drive that had begun at the outset of the fourth quarter to give Flintridge Prep a 16-14 lead.
The Rebels regained possession when Faith Baptist failed to convert on fourth down from its 29. Six plays later, Paul Park scored on a two-yard run to complete the scoring with 2:13 left.
Faith Baptist quarterback Gavin Amos, who completed nine of 19 passes for 117 yards, threw interceptions on the Contenders’ next two possessions.
Third-seeded Faith Baptist (7-2) built a 14-0 lead in the second quarter on a 12-yard touchdown run by Amos and a 21-yard scoring pass from Amos to Alex Estrada.
But Flintridge Prep (7-2) scored on the final play of the first half on J. J. Robinson’s one-yard run, then limited the Contenders to 72 total yards in the second half.
