Mira Costa Crushes Laguna Beach and Makes Spiker Final
Mira Costa High advanced to the Southern Section 5-A girls volleyball final by beating Laguna Beach, 15-5, 8-15, 15-5, 15-9, at Redondo Union High on Thursday night.
Mira Costa (22-0) will face the winner of the Corona Del Mar-Santa Barbara match in the finals Saturday night. With the loss, Laguna Beach finished the season 19-2.
Kristal Attwood led Mira Costa with 14 kills. “Kristal had her best match of the year,” Mira Costa Coach Dae Lea Aldrich said.
After winning the first game, Mira Costa had a defensive lapse and lost the second. Laguna Beach outside hitter Sara Nelson had eight kills in the game, often spiking through Mira Costa defenders.
Mira Costa rebounded and won the next two games by taking away the outside of the court, forcing Laguna Beach to spike into the heart of the Mustang defense.
