Thompson Leads Orange Offense Past Atascadero
SANTA ANA — Chris Thompson completed three touchdown passes to lead Orange High School over Atascadero, 28-6, in a Southern Section Division VIII first-round playoff game Friday at Santa Ana Stadium.
Thompson gave Orange (8-2-1) an early 14-0 lead when he completed a pair of passes to Mark Kammerlohr.
Kammerlohr scored first on a 33-yard reception down the left sideline with 8:33 left in the first quarter. His second score came on a 26-yard reception with 8:04 remaining in the second quarter.
“Chris plays within himself; he knows what he can do, and we take what he gets us,” Orange Coach Tom Meiss said. Thompson completed four of seven attempts for 102 yards.
Orange’s defense held Atascadero quarterback Scott McLain to seven of 18 completions for 126 yards. One pass was intercepted, and he was sacked six times, three times by Mike Evans.
“We covered McLain well, and our ends stayed after him,” Meiss said.
