Sooners’ Bell Not Guilty of Rape

Former Oklahoma football player Glen Bell was found not guilty of first-degree rape Friday, a few hours after the same jury in Norman, Okla., convicted his teammates, Nigel Clay and Bernard Hall, of raping a woman in an athletic dormitory.
District Attorney Tully McCoy said the 20-year-old Oklahoma City woman who had testified she was raped at least three times on Jan. 21 was “satisfied that two of the people who raped her will be punished.”
He said that any woman who is sexually assaulted is “concerned that it is believed that she is raped and that responsible parties are punished, and in this case that was done.”
The jury recommended 10-year sentences and $10,000 fines for both Hall, of Detroit, and Clay, of Fontana. Sentencing is expected within the next month.
