Ready, Crimestoppers?
The promotional campaign kicks off next week for “Dick Tracy”--with Warren Beatty starring/directing--but you’re getting a first glimpse here of his handsome profile as the crime-stopping cop who gained his fame in the comics. The silhouette will be the official logo for the film. We’ll let you decide if it bears a resemblance to the trademark profile of Tracy as originally drawn by his creator, Chester Gould, back in 1931.
Now in post-production, the picture was filmed only in primary colors--bright red, blue, green and yellow, along with some black-and-white--the better to approximate the look of Gould’s strip.
When it opens on June 15, “Dick Tracy” will be “co-billed” with the next Roger Rabbit cartoon, “Rollercoaster Rabbit.” Which means, said a source, that Disney--not its adult arm, Touchstone--will handle distribution.
