COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Villanova Can’t Stop Louisville
Jerome Harmon scored 21 points and No. 12 Louisville withstood a Villanova rally for an 83-69 victory and third place in the Maui tournament Sunday night at Lahaina, Hawaii.
The Cardinals outscored Villanova, 19-4, over the final 10:15 of the first half to take a 39-23 lead. They started the second half with a 9-3 run and led, 48-26, with 14:45 to play.
Villanova narrowed the deficit to 70-62 with 3:55 left on a three-point play by Tom Greis. But the Wildcats never got to within 10 points again as the Cardinals made seven of eight free throws in the final 2:31.
Alabama 57, Clemson 48--Led by Robert Horry’s 22 points, the Crimson Tide held off a late Tiger run to win the championship of the San Juan, P.R., Shootout.
Horry scored nine points to help Alabama lead, 30-20, at the half. Sean Tyson’s two baskets cut Alabama’s lead to 34-30 with 14:44 left. But the Tide then scored seven straight points, capped by a three-point basket by Horry.
Arkansas 102, Oregon 75--Lee Mayberry scored 10 points in the opening minutes and another eight during a big second-half run as the ninth-ranked Razorbacks eased past the Ducks at Little Rock, Ark.
