Lin Defers Taking Position on Bid: Lin Broadcasting Corp. said its board deferred taking a position on a revised $3.4-billion offer from McCaw Cellular Communications Inc. for a controlling interest in the company. Lin has already reached an agreement with BellSouth Corp., the regional telephone company based in Atlanta, for a merger of their cellular interests. That proposal is being presented to Lin shareholders for a vote Jan. 12.
