P.M. BRIEFING : Kim LeMasters Resigns at CBS
NEW YORK — Kim LeMasters, the boyish-looking executive responsible for the CBS television schedule, resigned today as president of CBS Entertainment.
A successor was expected to be named shortly.
The network currently is in third place in the prime time ratings, as it was last season and the previous season. LeMasters, 40, took over his present job in 1987, when CBS already was on the way to the cellar.
LeMasters, who has worked for CBS for most of his career, said he was leaving to go into business for himself. At CBS, LeMasters developed a number of the network’s top shows, including “Dallas,” “Magnum, P.I.,” “Knots Landing,” “Falcon Crest” and “Newhart” and oversaw the launch of “Frank’s Place,” “Murphy Brown,” “Designing Women” and “Wiseguy.”
He also was responsible, as head of entertainment, for bringing the much-acclaimed miniseries “Lonesome Dove” to the small screen.
