Firepower of Soucie, Kraatz Fuels Christian Heritage
Brad Soucie scored 32 and Mark Kraatz added 21 to lead host Christian Heritage over The Master’s College, 97-90, in an NAIA District 3 game.
The Master’s (12-12) led at halftime, 42-40, but Christian Heritage (16-4) came out hot in the second half and scored 57 points.
Besides his 21 points, Kraatz also had nine assists. Other players in double figures for Christian Heritage were Rundy Foster (16) and Rob Meeter (12).
Ron Hubbard scored 28 points for Point Loma Nazarene College, but it was not enough as host Fresno Pacific won its fifth in a row, 94-71. PLNC fell to 6-12, 0-3 in the Golden State Athletic Conference and Fresno State improved to 13-6, 3-0.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Julie Evans scored 31 and Lori Lollis added 19 more as San Diego State beat host San Jose State, 84-74.
SDSU improved to 3-14, 2-4 in the Big West and San Jose State fell to 3-13, 1-6.
SDSU’s Melanie Usher, who fouled out with 54 seconds remaining, scored 14 for the Aztecs. Lora Alexander scored 25 for San Jose State.
Freshman center Chris Enger scored 21 points for the University of San Diego, but in a losing cause as USD fell to the University of San Francisco, 71-58.
USD could not overcome the balanced scoring of USF, which got scoring from eight of its 10 players, four of whom were in double figures.
USD, which also had 17 from Candida Echeverria, fell to 10-7 and 0-4 in the West Coast Conference. USF improved to 13-4, 4-0.
Point Loma Nazarene hung tough, but ended up losing to visiting Fresno Pacific, 73-71.
Camille Armijo had 15 points and Carrie Carambas had 14 to lead PLNC (8-8, 0-3 in the Golden State Athletic Conference) Fresno Pacific improved to 8-9, 2-1.
