COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Chapman Falls Victim to Cold Spells

ORANGE — Cal State Dominguez Hills pulled away in the second half to defeat Chapman, 56-47, in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. men’s basketball game Saturday night in Hutton Center.
The loss was the fifth in six games for Chapman, which dropped to 10-11 and 2-6 in the CCAA. Dominguez Hills is 8-13, 4-4.
Frantz Reyes made a jump shot to give Chapman a 22-21 lead one minute 10 seconds into the second half, but the Panthers failed to score a point over the next 7:40. Chris Martin made a three-pointer to bring Chapman within five points at 30-25, but the Panthers then went another five minutes without scoring.
Reyes made two free throws with 5:52 remaining, but Chapman was behind, 43-28. The Panthers made a mini-run in the game’s final minutes, with Martin and Kevin Stafford making some three-pointers. Martin, who led Chapman with 16 points, had four three-pointers in the second half.
Vincent Washington scored 16 for Dominguez Hills, and Brian Johnson held Chapman’s leading scorer, Roger Middleton, to 11 points--only one of which came in the second half.
