Arbitrator Awards Bo Jackson $1 Million, 10th on Royal Payroll

Bo Jackson, who led the Kansas City Royals in home runs and runs batted in last season, has been awarded a salary of $1 million by an arbitrator instead of the $1,900,001 he requested.
The disparity between the Royals’ offer of $1 million and Jackson’s request was the biggest in baseball arbitration history. Arbitrator Stephen Goldberg announced his decision in Los Angeles Sunday.
Jackson, voted the most valuable player of last season’s All-Star game, will be the 10th highest-paid member of a team that spent $19 million during the off-season to sign free-agent pitchers Mark and Storm Davis. Jackson made $610,000 last season.
