SAN FRANCISCO — The Giants signed veteran infielder Robby Thompson to a three-year contract, plus a club option for 1993, the team announced today.
With Thompson’s signing, Giants President and General Manager Al Rosen once again avoided an arbitration hearing. Rosen has never gone to arbitration with a player.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The 27-year-old Thompson, a second baseman, batted .241 with 13 home runs and 50 runs batted in last season. He led the National League with 11 triples.
