International Paper to Close Down Plant

ALDAN, Pa. — International Paper Co. said it would close its Philadelphia-area container plant by April 6, affecting about 100 employees.
Benny R. Smith, general manager of IP’s northern container division, said a review of plant operations made it “clear that closing the Philadelphia plant was unavoidable due to the continued unprofitable nature of the operation.”
IP has other container plants in the Northeast that can serve the Philadelphia plant’s customers, Smith said.
