The City Council has decided to more than double the salary of Transportation Commission members. The council is also considering raises for itself and the Planning Commission.
The council agreed to pay Transportation Commission members a flat rate of $300 each month. Members are presently paid $35 per meeting, with each member attending an average of four meetings or study sessions each month.
Discussion of pay increases for the City Council and Planning Commission will continue at the council’s March 5 meeting. Council members are currently paid $600 a month and will consider raising that salary to $690 a month. Planning commissioners now earn $75 per meeting. The council may raise that amount to $100 per meeting or approve a $400 monthly salary for commissioners.
The council also announced that a public hearing will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday to consider a new Costa Mesa general plan, the city’s blueprint for commercial and residential development.
