HOT SPRINGS, Ark. — The purse for the Apple Blossom Handicap to be run April 18 will be raised from $250,000 to $350,000, Oaklawn Park President Charles J. Cella announced today.
“This move is made to guarantee the quality and to reward those horses who will race in the Apple Blossom,” Cella said.
Eight Eclipse Award champions have raced in the Apple Blossom, including four in the last five years. Last year’s winner, Bayakoa, was voted champion filly or mare in 1989.
The Apple Blossom, for fillies and mares, 4 years old and up, runs a distance of 1 1/16 miles.
