ON THE SIDELINES : Reds’ Myers Loses Arbitration

CINCINNATI — Baseball arbitrator Richard Casher ruled in favor of the Cincinnati Reds today, awarding pitcher Randy Myers $875,000 for the 1990 baseball season, the Reds said.
Myers, who was paid $300,000 last season, had sought $1.1 million.
Casher heard both sides submit their figures and arguments Tuesday in New York. Myers’ case was based on his performance last season with the New York Mets, which included a 7-4 record, 2.35 earned run average and 24 saves. He appeared in 65 games, pitching 84 1/3 innings with 88 strikeouts.
Myers went to the Reds in a Dec. 6 trade along with pitcher Kip Gross for reliever John Franco and minor league outfielder Don Brown.
