Mark Georgeson, a sophomore center on the Pepperdine basketball team and a former Marina High School player, was seriously injured early Thursday in a head-on collision while driving in Malibu Canyon.
Georgeson suffered a broken pelvis and three broken ribs. He was listed in serious but stable condition Thursday afternoon at Westlake Community Hospital.
The accident occurred as Georgeson was driving from Pepperdine to his residence in Calabasas after Wednesday night’s game against Loyola Marymount. A spokeswoman for the California Highway Patrol said Georgeson, 20, was driving north on Malibu Canyon Road when he went into the southbound lane and collided with a car driven by Parkie Singh, 52, of Malibu. Singh was listed in critical but stable condition at Westlake Community Hospital Thursday afternoon.
A CHP spokeswoman said a ticket probably would not be issued.
The 6-foot-10 Georgeson, a 1987 graduate of Marina High in Huntington Beach, has started 17 games this season and is averaging four points and 2.5 rebounds. He spent the 1987-88 season as a redshirt at Arizona and transferred to Pepperdine in December of 1988.
