Defending champion Greg Norman and U.S. Masters champion Nick Faldo each shot a six-under-par 67 and tied for the lead after 36 holes of the Australian Masters Friday at Melbourne.
Norman, seeking his sixth victory in the 12-year history of the tournament, and Faldo were 11-under-par at 135 halfway through the tournament. Both had 68s in the opening round.
Two strokes behind them were Australians Ian Baker-Finch, Jeff Woodland and Steven Bann.
Lee Trevino made four consecutive birdies on the back nine on the way to an opening-round 66 and the first-round lead of a seniors tournament at Naples, Fla.
Trevino’s 66 tied the tournament’s low round, set by Bobby Nichols in 1988.
Elaine Crosby shot a four-under-par 68 for the first-round lead of the LPGA Inverrary tournament at Lauderhill, Fla.
