Senate Passes Gun Control Bill

I disagree with your editorial (“The Loaded Gun to Their Heads,” Feb. 8) favoring waiting periods for the purchase of firearms. There will be no increase in public safety with the imposition of a waiting period. Criminals and unstable people don’t buy guns in stores, they buy them on the street or steal them. Why pass a law which will not produce the desired effect?

I propose this: Put a 15-day waiting period in place for the purchase of all firearms with the following provision. If, after five years, the crime/murder rate involving firearms has not decreased, the waiting period for all firearms--including handguns--is automatically repealed.
