New Conductor for ‘Gurrelieder’:
Andre Previn will not lead the Los Angeles Philharmonic in Schoenberg’s epic “Gurrelieder” as scheduled this weekend. The conductor has the flu with a 103-degree fever. He caught the bug while substituting for a similarly indisposed Seiji Ozawa in concerts in Boston and New York last week. “I’ve got a real classic case of whatever it seems that half the world has got,” a hoarse Previn said from his home in Bedford, N.Y. Gerard Schwarz, music director of the Seattle Symphony and former music director of the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, will replace Previn Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.
