Anne Beckwith-Smith is around royalty every day, but she was still excited today to be honored by Queen Elizabeth II.

Beckwith-Smith, first lady-in-waiting to Princess Diana since 1981, was among 130 people receiving honors at Buckingham Palace.

“It is rather different for me today,” she said after receiving the insignia of Lieutenant of the Royal Victorian Order, awarded by the queen for services to the Royal Family. “Usually one is watching, and to be actually part of it is very exciting,” Beckwith-Smith said.
