CONSUMERS : Alarm Clock for Hearing Impaired
Hearing-impaired people--an estimated 22 million in the United States--may want to consider Shake Awake, a new vibrating alarm clock that is placed under the pillow and pulsates to wake you.
The compact clock--3 inches wide, 2 1/2 inches high and 1 1/4 in depth--has a half-inch digital time display, standard alarm and time set buttons and a snooze feature. It also has a light button to illuminate the digital display.
Shake Awake, which is manufactured by F.O.B. Products Inc. in Hong Kong, operates on two AA batteries and a button cell for the light.
The clock costs $24.95 (plus $2.50 shipping and handling) and is available through various deaf associations nationwide or through Shake Awake Corp., 9230 Olympic Blvd., Suite 202, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90212; phone (213) 274-6341. In a few months, the vibrating clock will be available with an audible option as well.
