Aztecs Score Five in 7th, Shut Out Cal Lutheran
The San Diego State baseball team scored five runs in the seventh inning and shut out Cal Lutheran, 7-0, at Smith Field Wednesday. Jeff Barry was two for four with an RBI in the first innning and a run in the seventh for SDSU (8-1). Cal Lutheran is 4-2.
FOOTBALL
Martin Moss was named football coach at San Diego City College, President Jeanne L. Atherton announced. Moss, formerly a part-time coach, replaces co-head coaches Anthony Williams and Leroy Dotson, who will continue coaching on Moss’ staff.
Moss, a Lincoln High and UCLA graduate, was a defensive lineman for the Detroit Lions from 1982-85.
RUGBY
Four Old Mission Beach Athletic Club rugby players were chosen for the United States national rugby team. Chris Lippert, Bill Leversee, Rick Crivellone and Kevin Higgins, who was named team captain, were among 21 players chosen out of 40 at tryouts held last weekend in San Diego.
The team will travel to Ireland to play the Irish Students on March 2 and Ireland’s B team on March 10.
MEN’S TENNIS
Resuming a match that was rained out on Sunday, UC San Diego split its singles matches with visiting Air Force, but dropped all three doubles matches and lost, 6-3, at UCSD.
Triton No. 1 player Francois Monnar defeated Tony Krawietz, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), No. 2 Chris Belloli defeated Ricky Koda, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, and No. 5 Tim Ditzler defeated Tom Jahn, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.
UCSD fell to 2-4.
