NATION IN BRIEF : GEORGIA : Dr. King’s Son Offers Apology to Gays

Martin Luther King III apologized for saying “something may be wrong” with homosexuals and met with angered gay-rights leaders to learn more about their concerns. At a news conference in Atlanta, the son of the slain civil rights leader told reporters that his remarks were “uninformed and insensitive.” King enraged homosexuals earlier this week when he told middle-school students in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., that “something may be wrong in the makeup of that individual if they happen to be that way.” Leaders of local gay-rights organizations said they were satisfied with the apology and praised King, a Fulton County commissioner, for his candor.
