A memorial service for Judge Stanley N. Barnes, the senior judge of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Episcopal Church, Monterey Road and Fremont Avenue in South Pasadena.
Barnes, a former Los Angeles Superior Court judge and assistant attorney general of the United States, was 89 when he died Monday in Palm Springs.
An All-Pacific Coast lineman in the early 1920s, Barnes played football at UC Berkeley, which honored him as “Alumnus of the Year” in 1966.
One of his favorite community activities was the Southwest Museum in the Mt. Washington area of northeast Los Angeles; his wife, Elizabeth, asks contributions to it in his name.
