Kingdom Loses, but U. S. Wins
Roger Kingdom, world record-holder in the 110-meter hurdles, was beaten in a 60-meter hurdle race Sunday by the Soviet Union’s Igor Kazanov, but the United States still won nine of 13 events in a three-nation indoor track meet at Yokohama, Japan.
Kazanov was timed in 7.60 seconds. Kingdom, who co-holds the American record in the event at 7.36, finished in 7.61.
Calvin Smith of the United States, third in the 100-meter dash at the Seoul Olympics, was beaten by countryman Daron Council and the Soviet Union’s Andrei Fedoriv. Council won in 20.97 with Fedoriv second in 21.12. Smith was clocked in 21.35.
