Mathematics Program for Minority Students

More than 1,300 minority high school students will participate in academic contests during the Southern California Mathematics, Engineering, Science Achievement Day, May 24 at Cal Poly Pomona.
The MESA program was created to increase the number of minorities with four-year mathematics-based degrees. MESA Day will feature such competitions as an egg drop, building an oil derrick from toothpicks and glue, running a computer program, constructing towers of paper and flying paper airplanes for distance.
The event is sponsored by Harvey Mudd College.
