The head of the World Cup Organizing Committee, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo, criticized delays in updating San Paolo stadium in Naples, Italy, and indicated the arena might not be ready when the soccer tournament opens in June.

“The external part of the stadium is in disastrous condition,” Montezemolo said of the 80,000-seat facility. He was also critical of parking areas and the media center.

“Certainly, World Cup games will be played in Naples after all, but I can hardly imagine the stadium’s condition by June,” Montezemolo said.

Alberto Conte, the Naples official in charge of work at the stadium, said it will be ready for the start of the World Cup.
