PREP ROUNDUP : Huntington Beach Beats Marina in Volleyball
Doug Cunningham and Andy Kijewski each had 15 kills to lead top-ranked Huntington Beach High School to a 15-7, 15-6, 14-16, 15-11, victory over sixth-ranked Marina in a Sunset League boys’ volleyball match Friday at Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach improved to 5-1 and 1-1 in league.
In another Sunset League match:
Ocean View 3, Westminster 1--Chris Hocker had 18 kills to lead host Ocean View (7-3, 2-0) to a 12-15, 15-8, 15-9, 15-13 victory.
In Century League volleyball:
Foothill 3, Santa Ana 0--Jeff Janis had 16 kills and Dane Gorup had eight as Foothill (7-1, 2-0) defeated host Santa Ana, 15-10, 15-7, 15-5.
In Empire League volleyball:
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 1--Jerome Facione had 20 kills and 15 blocks and Joe Egalde had 16 kills for El Dorado, but visiting Esperanza won, 15-5, 12-15, 15-10, 15-5.
In Garden Grove League volleyball:
Garden Grove 3, Kennedy 0--Joe Squires had 10 kills and Alex Ripley added eight as host Garden Grove (7-4, 4-2) won, 15-11, 15-2, 15-12.
La Quinta 3, Los Amigos 0--Paul Price and Tom Green had 16 kills apiece to lead visiting La Quinta (7-1, 6-0) to a 15-3, 15-9, 15-1 victory.
Rancho Alamitos 3, Pacifica 2--Richard Pearce had 22 kills and 13 blocks to lead visiting Rancho Alamitos (6-6, 5-1) to a 9-15, 15-8, 8-15, 15-9, 15-13 victory.
In Olympic League volleyball:
Santa Margarita 3, Orange Lutheran 2--Sean Regan had 13 kills for visiting Santa Margarita (9-2, 4-1) in a 15-10, 12-15, 8-15, 15-10, 15-9 victory.
Calvary Chapel 3, Miraleste 2--Alan Saurez had 20 digs to lead host Calvary Chapel (7-2, 5-0) to a 15-1, 4-15, 4-15, 18-16, 15-13 victory.
In Sea View League volleyball:
Newport Harbor 3, Tustin 0--Justin Redmond had 13 kills to lead host Newport Harbor (2-4, 1-1) to a 15-7, 16-14, 15-3 victory.
Corona del Mar 3, Saddleback 0--Chris Seal had 11 kills and Ryan Steelberg had 22 assists to lead Corona del Mar (2-2, 2-0) to a 15-3, 15-3, 15-3 victory.
University 3, Estancia 1--John Gannon and Garret Gee had 14 kills each as University won, 15-10, 15-12, 11-15, 15-4, at Estancia.
In South Coast League volleyball:
Mission Viejo 3, Capistrano Valley 1--Greg Amaya had 25 kills and six blocks to lead visiting Mission Viejo (3-3, 1-1) to a 9-15, 15-8, 15-12, 15-12 victory.
Dana Hills 3, El Toro 1--Visiting Dana Hills scored a 15-7, 5-15, 15-3, 15-7 victory.
Irvine 3, San Clemente 1--Leon Lee had 11 digs as host Irvine (4-4, 1-1) won, 13-15, 15-9, 15-13, 15-11.
In Angelus League tennis:
Servite 11, Bishop Amat 7--The Friars (6-4, 5-2) won seven of nine doubles sets at the Anaheim Tennis Center.
In Empire League tennis:
Loara 10, Katella 8--Cameran Lindee swept his sets, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0, to lead host Loara (7-4, 2-1).
Los Alamitos 10, Cypress 8--Can Pham swept, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3, for Cypress (1-1 in league).
In Orange League tennis:
Valencia 17, Brea-Olinda 1--Robert Bae (6-4, 6-2, 6-0) won his singles sets for host Valencia (10-1, 7-0).
Western 15, Savanna 3--Steve Her (6-1, 6-3, 6-0), Ed Peregrino (6-2, 6-0, 6-0) and James Yu (6-2, 6-1, 6-0) each swept his singles sets for visiting Western (10-2, 5-2).
In Sea View League tennis:
University 11, Newport Harbor 7--Steve Tze and Bryan Shapiro (6-3, 6-3, 6-3) swept their sets at No. 1 doubles for host University (7-3, 4-1).
In South Coast League boys’ tennis:
Irvine 10, Capistrano Valley 8--The No. 1 doubles team of David Chow and James Ha won its sets, 6-3, 6-3, 6-1, for host Irvine (4-8, 1-2).
El Toro 13, Mission Viejo 5--The No. 1 doubles team of Suri Appa and Brian Delbenes remained undefeated in league play, winning, 6-2, 6-1, 6-3, for host El Toro (9-2, 2-1).
