OXNARD : 3 Held in Boat Theft; 3 Yachts Damaged
Three men were in custody Saturday for stealing a power boat from the Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department reported.
David Amrose Rievas, 19, of Ventura; David Alexander Jeffreys, 22, of Port Hueneme; and Daniel Martin Gronvold, 21, of Oxnard were arrested shortly after 6 a.m., Sheriff’s Lt. Joe Funchess said.
The incident began when Channel Islands Harbor Police responded to a call about a vessel leaving the harbor without turning on its lights.
The vessel was ordered to return to the harbor.
The boat had turned around and was near the mooring area when the harbor patrolman saw three people in black jackets and dark clothing jump into the harbor.
The abandoned vessel then collided with two yachts moored in their slips, causing major damage to all three vessels.
The three men were arrested after a short foot pursuit by Ventura County sheriff’s deputies and Oxnard police officers, Funchess said.
