SUMMER BASEBALL ROUNDUP : Panorama City’s Ortiz Rebounds From Poor Showing to Throw No-Hitter
- Share via
Russell Ortiz is, apparently, a quick study.
Hit hard Wednesday in his first American Legion game, he bounced back to throw a no-hitter and lead Panorama City to a 6-1 victory over visiting Las Virgenes in a District 20 game Saturday afternoon.
Ortiz struck out 10, walked four and allowed an unearned run.
Josh Smith had two triples for Panorama City (4-2).
In other District 20 games:
Glendale 6, Woodland Hills West 1--Sean Regan’s two-out, bases-loaded double in the top of the sixth drove in three runs and broke a 1-1 tie at El Camino Real High.
Quartz Hill 18, Agoura 6--Quartz Hill’s Tim Salado (1-0) struck out nine and walked three in a complete game. Brian Lovelace hit a two-run home run for Quartz Hill (4-0).
Eagle Rock 7, Encino-Crespi 5--Encino-Crespi (1-3) was led by Brodie Van Wagenen, who had three hits.
Sun Valley 15, San Fernando 2-- Each team had nine hits, but visiting Sun Valley (3-0) drew 15 walks.
Studio City 9, Reseda 8--Studio City took a 9-6 lead after six innings and held on to win.
Palmdale 6, North Hollywood 5--North Hollywood (0-6) lost despite the efforts of Duane Braxton, who was five for five.
DISTRICT 16
Westlake-Royal 4, Thousand Oaks 3 (10 innings)--Thousand Oaks scored two runs in the top of the 10th, but Westlake-Royal scored three in the bottom half.
GOODMAN COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Valley Rangers 8-6, East Los Angeles College 6-0--The Rangers’ Steve Slattery allowed only four hits in his second-game shutout.
