None Hurt as Fire Breaks Out at Disney Studios
Heavy smoke from burning batteries poured through production offices at a Disney Studios building in Burbank early Monday and forced the shutdown of a computer system, fire officials said.
There were no injuries, and the blaze was extinguished in about 15 minutes.
The fire was reported at 5:45 a.m. in the four-story building at 500 S. Buena Vista St., officials said. Firefighters saw heavy, black smoke billowing from a battery room in the basement and evacuated three people from the building.
The cause appeared to be a malfunction in the battery system, investigators said. No monetary damage estimate was available, but Disney officials said damage was minor.
The dense smoke triggered an alarm, which prompted an automatic but brief shutdown of the computer system, Disney spokesman Tom Deegan said. No data was lost.
