No Charges to Be Filed Against Officer in Dispute

No charges will be filed against an off-duty Los Angeles policewoman accused of threatening a motorist by pointing a gun at her, the district attorney’s office said Friday. Authorities said there was insufficient evidence.
Narcotics Officer Sandra L. Ruiz said she was involved June 7 in a shouting match with Claudette Stirewalt, 19, as they exited a freeway in Diamond Bar. But she denied displaying a weapon.
Ruiz, however, declined to make a statement to deputies investigating the incident, a sheriff’s spokesman said. In addition, Stirewalt was unable to positively identify Ruiz in a photo lineup. Stirewalt had told deputies that the driver of a 1989 Mercedes-Benz had pointed a gun at her after an exchange of insults on the freeway. The car was registered to Ruiz.
