Consumers Less Confident: Consumer confidence declined significantly in June, the Conference Board reported. The group said its consumer confidence index for June stood at 102.5, down almost five points from May. The year 1985 represents 100 in the index, which is based on survey responses. “The drop in confidence primarily reflects increasing concern about jobs,” a spokesman said of the business group’s monthly survey.
