Californian Ends Bicycle Journey Along Great Wall
BEIJING — American cyclist Kevin Foster, dodging startled guards who wanted to arrest him, zipped down the last stretch of the Great Wall to reach the ocean Friday, completing his end-to-end journey on the ancient monument.
He said the guards at Shanhaiguan, where the wall ends at the ocean, were startled to see him and a Chinese companion come shooting down the wall from a direction other than the ticket booth and turnstile for tourists.
Foster, 30, a part-time actor from Ojai, Calif., set out May 11 to become the first person to bicycle on top of the wall from one end to the other.
