Glendale Man, 18, Drowns in Castaic Lake
An 18-year-old Glendale man drowned Friday in Castaic Lake, police said.
Rudolfo Gonzalez was swimming alone near the perimeter of the lake’s marked swimming area about 1:10 p.m. when two lifeguards on shore spotted him flailing in the water, said Sgt. Jeff Thomas of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The lifeguards dove into the water to rescue Gonzalez. But by the time they reached the spot where they had last seen him, the swimmer had disappeared, Thomas said.
A third lifeguard in scuba gear found Gonzalez. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was administered and Gonzalez was flown by helicopter to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, Thomas said.
