Angry over South Korean government plans to revamp the nation’s broadcast system, four opposition lawmakers quit, hundreds of broadcast workers walked out, and radical students clashed with police. Union leaders charge that the government of President Roh Tae Woo is railroading a bill through the legislature that would strengthen the government’s grip on broadcasting before next year’s elections. They say the legislation would allow the government to control ownership and censor programming of broadcast networks.
