SIMI VALLEY : Mayor, Resident File for Election

Simi Valley Mayor Greg Stratton and resident Alfred J. Wilson have filed papers to run for mayor in November, city officials said Thursday.

The deadline for filing for the mayor’s race is 5 p.m. today, said Alice Redondo, assistant city clerk.

Six others have filed to run for two City Council seats. They are Councilwoman Ann Rock, seeking her third term; Planning Commissioner Judy Mikels; Simi Valley High School teacher Bruce Kanegai; businessman Dave McCormick; resident Harold Fick; and community activist John Etter.

Councilwoman Vicky Howard, whose term expires in November, is running for Ventura County supervisor against fellow Councilman Bill Davis, whose term expires in 1992.

Those who have taken out council papers but have not yet filed include neighborhood activist Marilyn Maurer, Chamber of Commerce member Sandi Webb and residents Kenneth Wenning and David Meichtry.

The filing deadline for the two council seats is Wednesday.

In the race for two open seats on the Simi Valley Board of Education, Lew Roth, a 22-year board veteran, and Simi Valley High School counselor Carla Kurachi have filed to run in November. Board President Helen Beebe said she will not seek reelection.

Residents Michael Murray and Karolyn Searight have been issued nomination papers but have not filed, district officials said. School board candidates also have until Wednesday to file.
