OXNARD : Surfer’s Widow Sues Over Electrocution
The widow of an Oxnard surfer, electrocuted after he touched a saltwater pumping station as he emerged from the water near an oceanfront restaurant, has sued the restaurant’s owners.
Sylvia De Los Santos, the widow of Anthony De Los Santos, filed suit Friday against Paul and Dolly Seay, owners of the Neptune’s Net Restaurant on the 42500 block of Pacific Coast Highway. The restaurant is in an unincorporated area near the Ventura-Los Angeles county line.
Also named in the suit are restaurant employee Albert Seay, three other Ventura County residents who own the property on which the restaurant sits and an electrician and electrical company that had serviced the pumping station.
De Los Santos, a 28-year-old construction worker, died in May after he apparently touched the metal top of the station after coming out of the water. The Ventura County coroner’s office listed the cause of death as electrocution.
The suit, which asks for unspecified damages, alleges that the Seays failed to provide a breaker between the pumping equipment and the source of electrical power and also failed to post warning signs and safety guards near the station.
