West to Meet Utah in Regional Opener
Newly crowned American Legion state champion Woodland Hills West will play Utah in the first round of the Southwest regional tournament Wednesday in Union City, Calif.
West (35-6), the defending World Series champion and winner of 29 of its past 30 games, will play at 4:35 p.m. at the James Logan High baseball complex. West won the state title with a 13-9 victory over Escondido last Tuesday in Yountville.
In other first-round games of the double-elimination tournament, Colorado will play Hawaii at 9:30 a.m. Immediately afterward, Nevada will play New Mexico. West’s game will be followed by Arizona versus Union City, the tournament host.
