‘BIG’
The 1988 body-exchange comedy is a personal triumph for Tom Hanks as the 12-year-old in the 30-year-old body, confirming his position as the screen’s premier young light comedian. There’s a boyishness about Hanks (with Jared Rushton, above) that makes him perfectly cast. Directed by Penny Marshall with verve and impeccable judgment, the film drops a child’s innocence into the corporate rat race as if it were a depth charge. Best of all, the film ends in a thoroughly satisfying fashion, always the challenge--and often the stumbling block--of fantasy.
