No ‘Hardware’ for ABC: Miramax Pictures reports that one of the commercial spots it had prepared for the R-rated movie “Hardware” was rejected by the ABC TV network. Miramax co-owner Henry Weinstein described the spot as a “futuristic love-making scene that is no sexier than any spot you would see for a perfume ad or a soap opera.” He said he expected that the spot also would be rejected by NBC and CBS. Weinstein said the sci-fi thriller, which opens Friday, had been edited after it was originally rated X by the Motion Picture Assn. of America. He said the R tag would allow a wider audience. “But the X connotation may have hung over the film,” he said of ABC’s rejection of the ad.
