Awards in the Desert: “Fountain,” a satire on Soviet bureaucracy directed by Yuri Mamin, was named best film Monday at the conclusion of the Cinetex International Comedy Film Competition in Las Vegas. Its writer, Vladimir Vardounas, won for best screenplay. “Love Hurts,” by American director Bud Yorkin, earned best actor and actress awards for Judith Ivey and Jeff Daniels. Uri Menzel of Czechoslovakia was named best director for “The End of Old Times.” A special jury award was given to the Tunisian-French production of “Boy of the Terraces,” and a second jury award went to Maurice Phillips, who directed the American comedy “Enid Is Sleeping.”
