BERGAMO, Italy — Police reported today that 28 people were injured and 22 Yugoslavs were taken into custody in disturbances that broke out before a UEFA Cup match.
Those injured included eight policemen, who were hit by rocks and bottles thrown by groups of drunken Yugoslav fans outside the Bergamo stadium Wednesday. It was the most serious violence of Italy’s new soccer season.
A police officer said that three Yugoslavs were hospitalized and that the other people injured, including the policemen, were dismissed after treatment.
Those taken into custody were released after being identified.
